Guardian Membership - New Member Activation

Activation takes 5-10 minutes on the web or by phone so please be sure you have the time to read this page thoroughly.

This form is for new Humane Center Adoptees that wish to convert the One Year Membership to the special discounted Lifetime Membership.  This discount is available only at the time of activation and only to new members that adopted from associated Humane Agencies.

One Year membership activation must now be done by phone.  This is because we had a high number of one year members that did not understand their membership when activating online and did not know crucial facts about their membership such as reporting their pet lost, updating their contact information and the importance of additional contacts.  Your pet's safety comes first!

 

Who should use this form:

This form is for new members converting their One Year Membership that they received from their Humane Agency to the special discounted Lifetime Membership (more information is below).  If you would like to stay as an annual member, please call Member Services at 800-APA-PETS to activate.  New Member Activation is open Monday and Tuesday 9am - 9pm and Wednesday - Friday 9am - 7pm and Saturday 10am - 4pm (est).

 If you have more than one pet, you will have an option to add those pets after you have finished this form.  Lifetime members can add additional pets for only $10.00 for their lifetime!

Your new pet will be an important addition to your household.  Your APA membership will be an important part of the pet owning experience.

Pets can, and do get lost.  Holidays, car rides, everyday life; pets always find a way.  With the Guardian Collar Tag securely attached to your pets collar, you pet has a 99.4% chance or returning home, in less than an hour.  Even if the collar is lost or removed, this program is so thorough, the recovery rate stays the same.  Being an APA member before your pet gets lost, is critical to your pets safety.

Permanently losing a pet is a painful, time consuming and expensive experience.  By being registered with the APA, you can never have to face that situation.  It is a priceless service, especially for families.

One reality of pet ownership is, no matter how responsible we are as pet owners, our pets can always find a way to get lost.  In the last 10 years we have seen some big changes in society regarding pets and we are finding that we need to change our thinking regarding the way we care for our pets. 

In addition to there being more cars and roads that pose obvious dangers, we are also seeing a lot of scams involving lost pets that take advantage of the pet owners concern in order to extort money from them. There is also many more pet thieves, called bunchers, that roam neighborhoods to find lost pets, take them and sell them to experimental labs.  Also a lot of people are becoming intolerant of pets running loose, we have heard some horrible stories, and people that are willing to help a lost pet get home tend to be less patient. If they can not contact the owner quickly, they will usually just let the pet go to "find its way home".  Others will just give the pet to a new home. 

Your Guardian Collar Tag is designed to address all of the current lost pet issues.  With the Guardian Tag, the finder would simply call the 800 number on the tag and they would reach us; and we are here 24 hours a day 365 days a year and we keep multiple phone numbers and contacts on file for you so that you, or some other responsible party, can be reached at all times.  The Guardian is extremely effective we have a 98.7% recovery rate as opposed to the national average which is only 73%, and that includes traditional collar tags and micro chips.  One of the biggest benefits of the program is our pet recovery staff which is specially trained to help insure the pets safety while we are contacting you.  Some people are nervous about holding onto a strange dog, and we can help them overcome their concerns.

When you report your pet lost, this is the address that we will FedEx, overnight deliver your Lost Pet Package, with full , customized lost pet posters and recovery information .  No P.O. Boxes please, FedEx will not deliver to a PO Box.

The APA provides recovery services when your pet is lost, so when your pet is lost, you will want to notify us right away.  We will FedEx overnight to you a lost pet package with customized lost pet posters and recovery information.  Our posters are full color and laminated so they are fade proof and waterproof.  In addition we have our $1000.00 Stolen Pet Reward printed right on the poster.  This helps to deter the number one way that you will permanently lose your pet, which is by another family or individual finding it in deciding to keep it.  When our posters go up those people tend to get very honest very quickly. 

Also, we immediately contact all humane agencies and rescue groups within a 30-60 mile radius to see if they have picked up your pet, and if not, we file a lost pet report with them.

Many times when someone finds a lost pet, they are calling from a cell phone or a pay phone and they are not in a position to hold onto your pet, so it is important if we can’t reach you that we are able to reach another responsible party.

Additional contacts are only contacted if your pet is recovered and you cannot be reached. They should be someone that can pick up and/or care for your pet in this event. It is very important to list at least one additional contact.
