The APA SPCA is currently hiring State Director Candidates only.  Other positions will become available in the future.

Our employment policies:

We live in a unique time. The challenges of our society are especially great for nonprofits. We have established employment policies that are not only fair to employees and affiliates but also minimize the waste of funds. Outstanding people deserve to be compensated appropriately and people who have misrepresented their capabilities or are nonproductive must not be allowed to waste organization funds. (While this may seem harsh it is an unfortunate reality in these tough times. We have an extreme responsibility to our donors that their funds be used appropriately.)

  • Directly supervised employees in an APA SPCA office receive hourly pay or salary. Advancements and benefits may be available however there is no bonus or additional financial compensation.
  • Employees or affiliates that are not directly supervised are compensated based on their performance. Fundraising positions may be compensated for based on achieving goals. All of these positions have a reasonable cap so that an employee or affiliate may earn a reasonable income but no one may receive excessive income from donation sources.

All APA SPCA managers have started as volunteers (most conduct a 30 Day Fundraiser) or other positions in the organization. If you are seeking a management position, you may conduct a 30 day fundraiser in order to be qualified for that position. We are a very efficient organization that does not waste our donors money, so every aspect of our operations are managed with great care.

FAQ - Where it is OK to ask why!

 Paid Positions

FAQ For Paid Positions

Type in your Search Term

  1. Why do you offer paid positions when you could just ask for volunteers?
  2. Where are positions available?
  3. How much can I make?
  4. I understand the pay structure can be creative, please explain.
  5. Is there the possibility for advancement?
  6. If I have not worked for the APA SPCA in the past, do I have to conduct a Certified Fundraiser Program?
  7. How do I apply?

Why do you offer paid positions when you could just ask for volunteers?

  • Volunteers are great. Obviously they can save a non profit quite a bit of money. However, there is a time and place to use volunteers. Their time must be respected and if you ask too much, both parties suffer. It is necessary that our organization is stable, efficient and effective. Paid employees are necessary to be sure they are stable, passing that stability on to our organization.
  • Why? By saving money in all other areas, and not wasting money, we can afford to pay the people that are the core of our organization.

Where are positions available?

  • We have positions available all over the U.S. Currently, most of the positions we are offering allow you to work from your home. Office positions are advertised in their local community.
  • Why? We are a nationwide organization and have no limits on where we can expand.

How much can I make?

  • Obviously this varies by position. The positions offered here currently pay from $30-$78k/year.
  • Why? We go to great lengths to be sure pay is appropriate to the position.

I understand the pay structure can be creative, please explain.

  • In our Volunteer Coordinator and Community Leader positions, some people start very quickly and devote full time to the position and some start very slow and never devote full time to the position. As we are not able to supervise you in person, we are not able to tell your level of time commitment to the position.
  • Each community is self funded and if you are developing a new community you will need to establish funding, including your pay, through our existing programs. We do not take from one community to fund another.
  • Why? Just one employee that is not productive can cost an organization tens of thousands of dollars. In addition, many people desperate for a job will apply for any position resulting in a position not being right for them and them not being productive. This also causes a huge loss in productivity and funds. Our pay structure is very fair for the employee, the organization and most importantly, our donors who expect us to handle their generous donations responsibly.
  • We try to keep as much funding in the community that it was raised.  We do not feel it is fair to raise money in Chicago to pay someone in Atlanta.  Our donors expect their donations help the pets of their community and we are committed to that policy.

If I have not worked for the APA SPCA in the past, do I have to conduct a Certified Fundraiser Program?

  • It is very difficult to manage volunteers if you have not participated in the program yourself. We strongly recommend that you conduct an APA SPCA Certified Fundraiser Program prior to beginning a management position like this. If you would like to be considered for a management position without having worked with the APA SPCA in the past please email our Director (Richard Werner, rwerner @ apaspca . org), with a copy of your resume (with "No APA SPCA Certified Fundraiser Program" in the subject line) and explain why you would be able to perform this position without direct knowledge and you will be considered accordingly. Please do not direct questions to him.
  • Why? Conducting a successful APA SPCA Certified Fundraiser Program allows our organization to know that you understand the program and can produce the results required to manage others. Since you will not be personally managed, hiring you with no direct experience with you opens the door for dishonest or unproductive people to waste donors funds.

Is there the possibility for advancement?

  • Absolutely! We are looking for leaders and great people to help us carry our mission into the future.
  • Why? Because any organization is as great as the sum of its people!
