APA Product Approval

INFORMATION FOR INTERESTED COMPANIES:

If you are interested in having your product approved there are three steps to the program.

  1. Initial Review
  2. Product Testing
  3. Approval Report

Initial Review

The APA has a pre-determination process to decide if a product meets testing guidelines. For example, we are currently not testing foods or chemicals. Each product must be individually evaluated (if your product is a new type of collar for pets, the collar must be separately evaluated for each type of pet).

The fee for product evaluation varies depending on the product. In most cases the fee is less than five hundred dollars. The fee will be determined after the initial review. You should be prepared to provide enough product for proper evaluation. Fill out the following form to have your product evaluated for consideration.

Product Testing

Products are tested in their actual intended use environment. When possible, shadow testing will be done in harsh environments. If a products longevity is in question the approval may be delayed or issued on a contingency basis. These possibilities will be discussed prior to testing.

Upon approval, the APA Approved logo and permission for its use will be issued. The APA will field feedback for the product and forward consumer feedback to the company. Complaints will be investigated and approved status can be revoked if warranted.

Approval Report

A report is issued as to the results of testing in most circumstances. If a product has been approved, camera ready approved logo artwork is issued along with guidelines for its use and the product may be featured at our web site. If a product does not pass and the required improvements are made, it may enter the approval process a second time.
